Roosevelt Memorial

My favorite memorial in Washington DC in The Franklin Roosevelt Memorial. This is the largest memorial in the city at over 7 acres big but also one of the most beautiful. The stone the memorial is made of is South Dakota Red Granite. The memorial is on the Tidal Basin so you can walk among the Cherry Blossom trees.
The memorial is divided into four different rooms. Each room represents one term of Roosevelt time in office. I really like the 21
quotes that run throughout the memorial . The quotes are from speeches President Roosevelt gave during his presidency. If you do read them you will think maybe some of today politicians should read some of the quotes.President Roosevelt  wrote many of his own speeches.
The memorial honors some of the accomplishments of President Roosevelt.President Roosevelt over saw the great depression of the 1930's.By 1933 13-15 million people were unemployed. Bread lines started forming because people were  hungry.Millions of people
would line up every morning for soup or some type of food. Some of the food people would eat would be Ketchup sandwiches, hot milk and rice, Gopher, Turtle. Dandelion salad . Milk Toast, oatmeal mixed with lard.
President Roosevelt  started talking to the citizens of the United states in a series of talks called fire side chats. He gave 29 fire side chats. The term fire side chats  was a nick name given by the news media. The chats was a great way of informing the the nation  on what was going on in the United Sates. The chats gave helped give
confidence that everything would turn out ok.
The memorial is great place to walk on a summer  night when it is lit up. If you have never been to Washington DC before stopping at the Roosevelt Memorial is a must see
